About Nelsa Baró
Born in Havana, Nelsa Baró completed her piano and composition studies (elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels) at the “Manuel Saumell” and “Amadeo Roldán” Conservatories and the Superior Institute of Art in Havana, obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Music in 1992.
After finishing her studies, she embarked on an international tour as a member of a Cuban music group, establishing her base in Barcelona for 8 months and traveling through countries such as France, Portugal, and throughout Spain. In the same year, the same music group was rehired to perform concerts in Spain and other European countries. In 1995, Nelsa Baró was individually contracted to create the music for a theater production included in the programming of the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona, titled “Cuba l’Illa impossible,” which led her to settle in Barcelona.
Participations
Since then, she has gained extensive professional experience in both teaching and artistic fields. Nelsa Baró has participated in multiple concerts as a soloist or accompanying pianist, including:
International tours as a member of a Cuban music group, performing at the “New Morning” Jazz Club in Paris, Jamboree in Barcelona, and prestigious theaters and festivals in Spain, France, and Portugal.
Pianist for the jazz trio on the television program “El Paral·lel” (1996-1997).
As a pianist for singer Mayte Martín, she has participated in various festivals such as the Villena Jazz Festival, Terrassa Jazz Festival, Arrecife de las Músicas de Canarias Festival, Flamenco Festival at the Auditorio Parco della Musica di Roma, Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany (“A Stroll through Catalan Culture”), Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, several SOS Racisme festivals, Festes de la Diversitat, Concert Catalunya x Kosovo at Palau Sant Jordi, Leo Brouwer’s “Les voix humaines” Festival in Havana, Wizing Center in Madrid, and numerous theaters and concert halls in Spain, Italy, Germany, and Cuba.
She has also performed multiple solo concerts as an interpreter and composer, including her presentation of the solo piano album “Espejos” at the Mas i Mas Festival in 2017, and has showcased her talent at various venues and auditoriums such as the “Josep Carreras” in Vila-seca.
