Piano Tuning Service in Barcelona

Our technicians-tuners are endorsed by extensive experience, professionalism and qualifications from prestigious factories such as Steinway & Sons, both in pianos for private use and in the most prestigious concert halls.

A piano for private use must be tuned depending on the intensity of use, be it for a beginner or almost professional student.

TUNING

THE IMPORTANCE OF CORRECT PIANO TUNING

Our recommendation, as well as that of the most prestigious manufacturers, is two tunings per year. In this way, the piano will be kept in perfect and suitable condition.

However, an annual tuning would be the minimum recommended for the conservation of the piano.

CONCERTS

THE TUNING OF PIANOS FOR THE CONCERT

The piano in a concert hall requires special care. It has to be tuned, regulated and harmonized with precision each time it is going to be used; furthermore, the tuning should not be abandoned even in long periods of inactivity.

But when the personality of a concert performer comes into play, anything can happen. There are pianists who do not tolerate tuners and tune the piano themselves; When they go on tour or have to give a concert with a piano that is not their own, they often rely on a single tuner of proven mastery and experience.

Our piano tuners have degrees awarded by firms such as Steinway, which distinguishes the most reputable piano tuners.

The optimal state of a piano requires a series of care and regular maintenance.

Tuning

Why do you have to do a piano tuning regularly?

The tuning of a piano is an important factor so that your instrument is always in good condition. It consists of the tension of the strings, if the piano is low in pitch, or the relaxation of the strings in case the piano is high in pitch.

Bearing in mind that an acoustic piano is made up of two types of stringing: steel strings in the middle and treble, and bass strings (copper wound strings), all of them withstand tensions of up to 20 tons in the case of grand pianos.

There are different circumstances that can cause this tension to become unbalanced and, therefore, piano tuning is necessary: seasonal changes, changes in humidity and temperature, the transport of the piano or the lack of use or the frequency of use of it. .

We would especially like to highlight those cases in which the piano has not been tuned for years “because nobody plays it”, a situation in which we usually find ourselves. On these occasions, the piano is usually low in pitch, which will require two tunings. The first to set the tuning to the correct pitch (440 HZ); the second would be advisable to carry it out after 30 days, in order to stabilize the desired tone. Disuse is one of the piano’s worst enemies.

In the event that a new piano has been purchased, at Jorquera Pianos we prepare it properly, leaving it in perfect tuning condition. However, it is a new instrument. Its stabilization period is between 6 months and a year. That is why at Jorquera Pianos, we consider this period to be a technical service guarantee. This way you can enjoy your tuned piano with all the guarantees of stability. From here, it is advisable to tune the piano once or twice a year. In case of use by a professional, we would recommend more than one tuning per year.

On older pianos, the pitch of the tuning will be determined by the general condition of the headstock, strings and pegs, and it is not unusual to have to tune the piano to the pitch the piano can handle.

Tips for keeping a piano in tune

The location of the piano is very important.

Never place your piano next to a radiator. Changes in temperature will cause the strings to tighten and loosen. The heat also implies a decrease in humidity, which can negatively influence the entire mechanism as well as the structural parts such as the soundboard and the pegbox.

The incidence of the sun not only affects the color change. It has the same effect as having a heat source nearby.

To maintain constant humidity, it is very effective to have plants. They are great indicators and regulators of humidity. If it is not possible, under the radiators, we recommend installing small containers with water. The ideal humidity range is between 40% and 60%, and may vary depending on the geographical area.

At Jorquera Pianos we have been specialists in the restoration, repair and tuning of pianos in Barcelona for 5 generations, having a team of highly professional technicians who are knowledgeable about the world of the piano. When our tuning technicians proceed to tune a piano, they are not only limited to the tension of the strings; perform a complete check of the instrument including small adjustments that may be necessary.

TUNING

PIANO TUNING HAS ALWAYS ACCOMPANIED JORQUERA

At the extreme of this trend, we can find the well-known custom of the great pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, who always traveled with his Hindu tuner, the only one he trusted to adjust the piano just as he wanted and needed, for which he demanded in the hotels a room of the same category as yours, and the same preferential treatment. Like Michelangeli, Arthur Rubinstein was accompanied on many of his European tours by Víctor Jorquera, and this led to a great friendship.

Other examples of our career are Alícia de Larrocha, Victoria de los Ángeles, Montserrat Caballé, Alfredo Kraus, Gabriela Monterio, Joyce DiDonato, Lang Lang, Sokolov, among many other great and beloved artists.

THE TUNER

WHAT MAKES A PIANO TUNER DIFFERENT?

Our tuner visits the room the day before or the day of the concert, spending hours preparing the instrument.

The interesting thing is to be able to exchange impressions with the pianist to give the final touches according to his instructions and tastes. On many occasions, the technician is present during the concert to be able to solve any incident during it. This depends on the intensity of the work or the technique of the pianist.

We put at your disposal all our trajectory and experience.
